Just had to jump start my girls. Has been in the shop all weekend. $2500 in repairs. I refuse to get involved, I don't want the headache. I'm not even sure my scan tool will work on it. Honestly might be the worst car I've ever been in the presence of.
Also update on life:
New apartment is great. Will have pics. No garage or parking overhang though:(

I received one of these as a rental once. Absolutely terrible. It was almost impossible to see out of. Horrible, horrible car/truck/suv whatever the hell it is.

But the srt4 isn't a bad choice, especially with the 6-spd.

has 10x the mileage and is old as fuck yet still runs better than any Caliber :p

Had one as a dealer loaner once. I wouldn't call it horrible (there are far worse vehicles out there, like the Chevy Aveo), but it's mediocre in every way. It's like DaimlerChrysler set out to make the most average vehicle physically possible.
To be honest, I've had more fun driving the appalling Aveo!
That said, the SRT4 is a riot. The Caliber is like the current Mitsubishi Lancer, there's just one desirable trim.

When my Mach was getting new tires a few months ago, a woman came in with her new Caliber. She had just picked it up from Drive Time. She paid 27K. Twenty Seven thousand for a 7 year old Caliber. I'm still at a loss for words.

I guess my opinion would change if the car was new, this does have 140k miles. No car should be this disposable.

Well, it is a car named for a unit of measurement equal to 1/100th of an inch.

What's that? Like 1/1000th of it's panel gaps.

I sill don't understand why this car got approved for production.
I always wondered what the meeting was like when the idea was pitched.
"hey we need to replace the neon"
"Since gas prices go up we should go with another small car"
"NO Lets make it a ugly mini suv thing and market it by saying its tough and not nice because it has no redeeming properties"
"SOUNDS LIKE A SALES RECORD CAR FOR SURE!"

I would really like to see the engineering team for this, or what money they got to work with. I think a refreshed Neon would've been better.

Same here the 2nd Gen Neon wasn't to bad. I bet some more $$$$ and time would have made a decent 3rd gen. Way better car vs the Caliber. I have always wished there were more books about the development of cars both successes and failures. Sorta like this one about the Ford Taurus http://www.amazon.com/Car-A-Drama-Am…

I'm honestly about to buy that book.
I've heard stories about the 3rd gen Grand Cherokee, they had a fraction of the money to complete that gen than any other. Really quite impressive what the engineers did with what they had to work with.

I don't either. It's just crazy. Some people said she needed to go back and return it, wonder if she ever did.....

And the ugliness.....
says a guy who owned in succession a Ford Tempo and then a Cavalier. LOL. ...although in fairness the LOOKS aren't really the drawbacks of either of those cars. hahaha.

Bunch of crooks at Drive Time... They sold a friend of mine an '05 Pontiac G6 with 95k miles for 16 grand. Obviously she's at fault for not doing her research, but seriously how can you live with yourself taking advantage of people like that?

Wow, that's terrible. There are some places that overprice their cars, but Drive Time just takes it up to a whole other level.
